Paper #2 vs Paper #1

When I was writing my second paper I could not help but notice how much easier and more enjoyable this paper was opposed to our last one. Writing the first paper was a rather difficult task for me. As you remember we wrote about our previous experiences with reading or writing. Since I did not really care for English that much, it was rather difficult to write for me. I honestly just did my work for English and moved on with my life. Overall, writing the first paper was a rather frustrating experience for me.

However, writing the second paper was another story. Writing about a life changing event led to me having many experiences to choose from. In fact, I’m having a hard time fitting my paper within the seven page limit. This paper’s topic made this writing experience so much easier than the first one. Not to mention I actually enjoy writing this paper. It brings back many great memories and reminds me how far I progressed as a young man.

What do you guys think? Which paper was easier to write for you? Which paper was more enjoyable to write? Or maybe you just hated both?

  1. I have noticed that writing this second paper is more enjoyable. I think that part of that is because when I wrote the 1st paper I noticed that I didn't hate writing as much as I thought. I used to have a very negative opinion about writing but when I actually reflected on my experiences in my English classes, I found that I didn't really dislike it. I didn't dread writing the second paper as much as I have dreaded some. I think that writing essays about yourself and your experiences are always more fun then writing about the Salem Witch Trials for your history class.

  2. Writing the first paper was difficult for me as well because I did not have a strong love for reading or writing either. The second paper took me a little bit longer to think of a topic, but as soon as I did I was able to start writing and create a (hopefully) somewhat entertaining story. The workshops really helped me with both of my papers because from draft one I needed help on ideas and grammar to help me expand my paper. I personally am not very confident in my writing but hopefully this class will help me evolve into a more confident writer. I enjoy listening to others stories because it allows me to think of new ideas or concepts.

  3. I agree, I find that this essay is a little bit easier to write because it’s more fun. We get to tell whatever story we want. This paper can flow more like a story then an essay, which I love. The first paper was cool too because it helped me realize thing about my writing but this paper allows me to look at my own life and find a change. I never would've thought about my position shift if this essay didn't force me to. I’m really excited for the third essay though because we get to write about the future. I think about the future a lot of the time. I am big on planning so I try to plan my future as much as possible.

  4. I think writing the second essay was much more easier. The last essay we wrote was hard for me because I'm not much of a writer or a reader so I really had to dig stuff up that never happened. This paper now, I actually have a good life changing event that happened so I was happy the topic was more relatable. However, like I said in the last blog, I feel like our essays are graded a little too harshly. I think a lot of us are trying our best but for this class, and being given these topics, I think we all should be getting high grades on our essays because the topics are not that difficult. Yes, they might be hard to relate to sometimes but in a whole, they're fairly reasonable.

  5. I think both personally for me are hard. I have a hard time expanding on somethings. Both essays had good topics. But I just have a hard time writing in general. I find it difficult to write just about one thing. I think that I should write about numerous topics within that one essay. I know now I need to specify. And dig a little deeper.

  6. I totally agree with you. This paper is so much better. I felt with my last paper that I wanted to start over but I had already gotten so far that it was too late. With this paper, everything flowed better. I felt like my descriptions were more in depth and that the story was all around better. I think that coming into college after senioritis and a long summer makes a student a tiny bit rusty. It is not surprising to me that the second paper would be easier. Plus now we know the expectations of our teacher and fellow classmates.

  7. I have to agree that writing this paper was easier for me. I chose to rewrite my first paper and after going in to see Ms. Ahmed I realized how much better I can make my first paper. I have also chose to go see her a lot for this paper and it really makes writing and improving my paper easier. I definitely think everyone should take advantage of her office hours.

  8. I'm not used to writing about personal experiences in English class. I took AP English classes in high school so I was used to analyzing books that we had read. When I found out that we had to write about personal experiences in this class I was surprised. The first paper was harder for me because I did not know what to expect at all. When I was writing the second paper I knew what the expectations were so it was much easier to write. I have to learn how to give more details in my writing. I have a tough time expanding on things. Writing these papers have taught me how to be a much more detailed writer than I was before.

  9. This paper was easier to write in a way. I have more confidence in my writing then I did the first time around. Also after my long summer, I felt like it was just painful to write or do any work. The first paper was a warm-up for me, if that makes sense. When running a marathon sometimes the first few steps, are the hardest cause you haven't found your stride yet. However I did not real like this topic, so this paper was and was not easier for me to write. I never really a had a huge "ah-ha" moment, so it has been difficult for me. But, overall the second paper has been much easier for me to write.

  10. i thought the topics for each paper were pretty interesting. the reason why i liked both was because i could relate to them easily. i can see how some people had a harder time with the 1st one, the second one is definitively more fun and limitless

  11. I liked both topics. I felt as if my first paper was a better paper overall. Yet, my second paper I had more fun writing, using more heart filled and passion in my personal stories. Overall, these papers have challenging topics but are very obtainable. Once you figure out what you are going to write about and how you plan on taking on the topic then it is easy to get on a roll and do some good writing. I could see some people not grasping these prompts though. In those cases, it's time to just suck it up, do the best you can, and pray that the next prompt is more your style.

  12. I honestly had way more trouble writing this paper. It took me forever and a half to even come up with a topic. I felt really confident about my last paper since the very first draft so I knew i'd end up really happy and proud once I was finished with it. On the other hand, this paper was quite the opposite. I was not excited to turn in my first draft and felt whatever about it. I liked my last one because I was able to release a passion. The second paper was more of revealing a past i was not proud of.

  13. As weird as this is I really enjoyed the first paper more. When assigned the topics I assumed I would hate the first paper and love the second but it turned out to be quite the contrary. On top of the expected difficulties of picking what change in my life to write about I also found it difficult to stay on task with this paper. I had to erase a bunch of stuff from my paper that didn’t fit in with my story at all; but now onto the odder of my reasons. I find myself progressively trying less and less hard as the semester goes on. The beginning of the year saw the hardest working attitude I’ve ever had towards school; I was even ahead in the reading for all my classes. Then slowly but surely I stopped working so hard and I find everything involving school work is a chore. It’s something I have to sit down and make myself do rather than just knocking it out as soon as it’s assigned. Maybe I’m just a slacker but I always find that to be the case! Maybe I’ll find the work ethic I need to finish this semester out strongly sometime soon.

  14. I completely agree with you. The first paper i felt like i was just dragging the story on as i wrote more since i was basically saying the same exact thing over and over again. This paper i could make pretty much as long as i wanted since i have more stories and life lessons that i learned than i can even remember that i could put into this paper. So the length of this paper is not an issue as i feel like i could write forever about my topic and this topic is much more enjoyable to write about.

  15. this paper is so much easier to write!! I love telling stories, whether orally or through narrative. The idea of a story is so pristine to me. YOu can do anything you want within the confines or words and thought If you can write it( and it helps to do it well) you can make it real. Its like the free write about 51st century. Even with such a restrictive topic, not one story ended up the same. Everyone made a different and each story had a different effect. The power of the narrative is that you are free to create and express however you wish

  16. I completely agree! This paper was a lot easier to write than the first one. I wrote way more than I thought I would for this one. At first I even wrote more than the requirement. But the first paper was a little more difficult. I thought that it was a very good topic and I really enjoyed writing about it. But with this papers topic you can pretty much pick what you want to write about. So you can pick something that you know you can talk about forever and descibe with great detail. I also believe that this paper was easier for a lot of us to write about because it wasn't our first. The first paper helped us get our feet wet. It helped us see where we wrote our strongest and where we didnt. It also helped us learn correct grammar and punctuation. I believe that as we write more and more it will be easier for us to write amazing papers.

  17. The second paper has been much easier. It's a broader topic, which gives us more freedom to write on something we can strongly support. Anyone who read my dreaded first paper would have read that I hate narrow topics, because I feel they restrict us as writers. I think the second paper is much better, because we're telling our stories this time, rather than trying to fill pages with words we don't really support nor care for.

  18. Honestly, i think the first paper was just as easy for me to write about. Especially in the beginning, i had no idea what i was going to write about in the second paper. They are both interesting topics to me and once i realized what i wanted to write about, thoughts flowed freely. The first paper being easy to write and being interesting for me set up the second paper to be the same in a way. The first paper was great because it was my first paper where i had freedom and that i actually tried on.

  19. Omg my paper is 9 pages long lol my group members HATED me when I first handed them out. This paper is so much easier to ramble on and on, It's exciting to share life experiences with other people. Especially ones that change your mind about something that is important to you. This topic was an excellent one, for sure. The last paper I felt like I had to pull things from mid-air to make it sound reasonable and easy to follow. It was kind of boring to write about. Mainly because my english career is rather boring lol.
